Ovulation disorders

Ovulation disorders are considered to be among the main causes of female infertility. Ovulation is essential in getting a pregnancy and is the only period in the entire menstrual cycle in which a woman can become pregnant. It is also known as the fertile period. If this is disturbed and impossible to calculate or is abnormal, the chances of becoming pregnant are very low.

What are the causes?

The causes underlying the ovulatory disorders or dysfunctions are in primary and secondary:

Primary causes:

- polycystic ovary syndrome;

- absence of ovaries since birth;

- the deficit of the luteal phase;

- genetic malformations of the ovaries;

- surgical removal of the ovaries (hysterectomy);

- the influence of cancer treatments (radiotherapy and chemotherapy).

Secondary causes:

- dysfunctions in the hypothalamus;

- hyperprolactinemia;

- disorders of the thyroid (hypothyroidism) or adrenal gland;

- tumors in the pituitary and adrenal glands;

- tumors in the ovaries;

- stress;

- overweight (obesity);

- medicines and treatments;

- sudden decrease in weight, etc.

What are the symptoms?

You could say that irregular menstrual cycle is a cause of ovulation disorders or disorders. It may be, but they also appear if you have a regular cycle. Therefore, you must follow other signs:

- excessive body and facial hair (hirsutism);
- acne;
- breast milk secretions.

Types of ovulation disorders

How is the diagnosis made?

Doctors can detect ovulation disorders during mandatory medical tests and analyzes before conceiving a child:

- FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) analysis;

- LH (luteinizing hormone) analysis;

- testosterone analysis.

These can also be detected with the help of:

- CT scans (CT scan) or MRI (nuclear magnetic resonance) of the pituitary gland and hypothalamus;

- endometrial biopsy;

- ovarian biopsy;

- specific antibody tests.

What are the risks?

Ovulation disorders, disorder or its absence (anovalutio) usually result in irregular menstrual cycles (oligomenorrhea). The risks that arise from this cause are:

- decrease the chances of conceiving children;

- difficulties in finding the fertile period in women;

- the impossibility of the egg to pass through the follicle to be released;

- the egg is released in the absence of crucial factors for fertilization or implantation.

How is ovulation disorder treated?

Ovulation disorders are some of the fertility problems that are the easiest to treat. The treatment schedule depends on the cause that causes the disorder and may include:

- medications for ovulation induction / stimulation;

- adequate diet;

- stress reduction;

- surgery (in the case of tumors).

Only ovarian insufficiency and the associated medical conditions are difficult to treat in order to increase fertility.
