The Americans sent the Romanian children over two tons

Missouri, USA / Romanian Global News

The American organization "A Thousand Books" from "St. Thousand Books" Louis, Missouri, will send a new English-language book shipment to Romanian schools, to mark the National Book Month, which takes place in the US in October.
This transport raises to over two tons the amount of books that "A Thousand Books" sent monthly, in less than two years from its establishment, to numerous schools and libraries in Sibiu, Bacau, Onesti, Sighisoara, Mangalia, Galati , Radauti, Targoviste, Piatra Neamt, Botosani, Iasi, Alba Iulia or Sf. Gheorghe, informs "Clipa", a Romanian publication from overseas.
The books are intended mainly for students in secondary and high school cycles and come to complement existing school textbooks. Many times, indeed, they are the only books in English accessible to students and are carefully selected from the point of view of content, which should be as educational and as appropriate to the age of the readers - story books, classic literature, history books, about nature, science popularization books, dictionaries.
"A Thousand Books" president, John Korst, said it is preferable for students to learn or improve their English notions from sources other than action movies and pop music.
The non-profit organization "A Thousand Books" was set up at the beginning of the year by the initiative of its president and other enthusiasts from St. Louis. Although initially conceived only as support for American Peace Corps volunteers, many of whom teach English in Romanian schools, the activity of "A Thousand Books" has expanded rapidly to
collecting large quantities of books, finding the necessary sponsorships for their transport in Romania and distributing them in schools and public libraries.
Currently, two other tons of books are collected and packed, waiting only to find the financial resources for their shipment to Romania.
