Women who suffer from certain complications during pregnancy are at increased risk for stroke, according to a study by the American Neurology Association.
The accident occurs after approximately 14 years after birth, usually at the age of 40. Complications may be high blood pressure, diabetes, preterm birth, lack of amniotic fluid, postnatal bleeding.
"Factors such as diet, a history of cardiovascular disease in the family, genetic factors may contribute to the increased risk of stroke in women.
Newborns can inherit these conditions, "said Dr. Monique V. Chireau, one of the authors of the study. As a preventative method, women should use drugs to prevent blood clots.
