Over 200 doctors, psychologists, educators and specialists working in the field of treating Down syndrome met in the City Hall of Sector 2 yesterday, in debates and exchange of experience related to this disease, in children.
The idea was that Down syndrome should not only be treated medically, but also socially, children should be accepted in schools as almost normal individuals, who are given the same chances as others.
"Schools should not be created for children with disabilities, but each school should be prepared to meet needs, organize special groups or classes, so that children are better integrated into society," said Simona Nicolae, representative MEC, present at the debate yesterday.

"Not the deficiency creates the disability, but the barriers of the society," adds Mayor Neculai Ontanu.
The international conference "A new approach to Down syndrome" was organized by the Association ALDO-CET Bailesti, in partnership with profile foundations in the Netherlands, attended by representatives of the National Authority for the Protection of the Rights of the Child and the Ministry of Education and Research.
